MONUMENT TO UNCERTAINTY
MONUMENT TO UNCERTAINTY is a site-based film cycle and field-research project developed since 2020 at a stormwater canal in Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang (Montréal), Québec.
The work is organized around a single infrastructural site: a concrete basin built to receive excess water.
The site is not treated as subject matter, but as a set of conditions. Water level, light, weather, reflection, ice, vegetation, debris, concrete, and time determine what can appear there.
Temporary interventions are placed into the canal and exposed to forces that remain outside full control.
Materials are suspended, reflected, submerged, displaced, or left to register contact with the site. The resulting image is evidence of an event produced between structure and circumstance.
The project uses repeated return as method. The same site is entered again and again under altered conditions.
What changes is not only the image, but the terms under which the image becomes possible.
MONUMENT TO UNCERTAINTY treats documentation as a primary form of the work. The camera, the site, the intervention, and the environmental condition operate within the same durational system.
