DOCUMENTATION / INTERVENTION / EVENT

The work begins before the distinction between document and artwork is stable.

In MONUMENT TO UNCERTAINTY, documentation is not treated as a secondary record of an action that has already taken place. The photograph or moving image is part of the event’s formation. A material is placed into the site; water, light, wind, gravity, weather, reflection, and duration act upon it; the camera registers the situation as it changes.

The intervention is temporary, establishing a condition through which the site can become visible differently. Nothing is fixed as a final object.

The work occurs through contact: between material and infrastructure, surface and atmosphere, intention and accident, me and the site.

Documentation, intervention, and event are therefore not separate stages. They are simultaneous terms within the same system. The image is not evidence after the work.

It is one of the forms through which the work appears.
